Dumisani Maraire is a brilliant Shona musician who plays the marimba and the nyunga-nyunga mbira. Dumi has strong ties to the Pacific Northwest where he taught at the university of Washington in Seattle. Such marimba bands as Balafon, Anzanga, Boka, Shumba , and Musasa began because of Dumi's influence.
